Dear readers,

Recently, I received this email from an unknown person expressing I was chosen for a lottery draw and start asking for my personal details including bank details. This is definitely a scam and unfortunately, there's no way you can trace these people as they are using bogus identification. Here's the copy of the email I received this morning.

Two winners on the massive Super Lotto Jackpot

Philippines - There were two winners on the last sunday(Feb22) on the Php 347Million (USD 7.5Million) Super Lotto Jackpot after the annoucement from PCSO. This is the biggest prize since the inception of the online gaming was launched in the country in 1995, according to PCSO.

One of the winner was already collected the prize won, according to source. Surely, this is the game of luck of a life time. A question was asked to one of the politicians in the country on what to do with the money if he will going to win millions from lotto betting, saying, "what to do with the prize is not a problem, but winning is".

Super Lotto Update in the Philippines

Now on its 19th draw, the biggest SuperLotto jackpot in Philippine history has not been won. No one took home the P288-million prize in Thursday night’s 6/49 draw.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said no bettor correctly guessed the six-number combination 35-01-42-36-41-22.

“Once again, there’s no winner for tonight. This pot is now the biggest prize for our SuperLotto game which is our most popular game,” noted Dr. Larry Cedro, PCSO spokesperson.
Last night’s pot stood at exactly P288,146,473.20.

Cedro said the jackpot easily surpassed its projected target of P270 million well before lotto outlets closed at 8:30 p.m.

By 6 p.m., the prize had already jumped to P276,411,952.80, with total sales hitting P206,499,120 at that point.

Two hours later, Cedro said the jackpot soared to P287,327,941.20 on sales amounting to P267,143,500 as of 8 p.m.

The PCSO reported the final total sales for the day at P271,690,900, of which P206,152,000 came from Luzon and P65,538,900 from the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
The second biggest prize for the lottery game was won by a construction worker from Novaliches in April 2008. He took home P249 million.

More than a week ago, on Feb. 5, the prize topped the P100 million mark for the first time this year at P115,191,684.

Cedro noted that since the PCSO began holding draws for the 6/49 SuperLotto three times a week, the jackpot had been climbing at a faster rate than before.

Previously, increments for the SuperLotto reached P10 million between draws. Now the increments are soaring by an average of P15 million to P20 million between the thrice-a-week draws, PCSO officials said.

The PCSO has yet to issue an official estimate of the expected prize for the draw on Sunday night. Others says it could reach 320Million as many people are keep on betting.

"PCSO stands for Philippine Charity Sweestakes Office. It is the principal government agency in charge of raising and providing funds for health programs, medical assistance and services and charities of national character. The PCSO is under the control and supervision of the Department of Social Welfare and Development ("DSWD") according to Executive Order 455."

Maths Theory Bags Lotto Jackpot

MOST of us believe winning lotto is down to the luck of the draw.

But a syndicate of university professors and tutors in Britain thought it could also be related to the principles of mathematical probability. And their theory was spectacularly vindicated this week when they matched all six numbers and scooped the $13 million lotto jackpot. The syndicate, made up of 17 staff members at Bradford University and College, bagged the big prize by using two boxes, 49 pieces of paper and a large amount of brainpower. But it was far from an overnight success.

Syndicate leader Barry Waterhouse, 41, who works at the design and printing section of the university, explained that the syndicate had been doing the National Lottery for eight years without conspicuous success after it started in 1994 with each member picking his or her own line. "We just weren't winning with the numbers being picked that way, so we thought of a different method which would mean all 49 numbers would be used,' Mr Waterhouse said.

The syndicate then set up a computer program to check the numbers every week. It took four years and a total outlay of $8700, but on Saturday, the formula succeeded. Matching the winning numbers and the bonus ball, they hit the jackpot. "We just thought that if all the numbers are in use, we must have a good chance of winning and it has proved so, though you never really think it will happen to you, "Mr Waterhouse said. Fellow syndicate member David Firth, 63, said: "We have won tenners and the odd 70 quid in the past, but now this is the big one."

Dead Man's Treasure

DANBURY, Conn. - On the day that Donald Peters died, he unknowingly provided financial security for his wife of 59 years and their family.

Peters bought two Connecticut Lottery tickets at a local 7-Eleven store on Nov. 1 as part of a 20-year tradition he shared with his wife Charlotte. Later that day, the 79-year-old retired hat factory worker suffered a fatal heart attack while working in his yard in Danbury.
On Friday, his widow cashed in one of the tickets: a $10 million winner which, in her grief over her husband's death, she had put aside and almost discarded before recently checking the numbers.

"I'm numb," Charlotte Peters, 79, said at Connecticut Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill.
Donald Peters usually bought the tickets for 10 weeks at a stretch, so the winning ticket he bought Nov. 1 for the Dec. 2 drawing was among several that Charlotte Peters put aside as she, their three children and two grandchildren coped with his sudden death.
"I was in the grocery store and I had it checked and they told me I was a winner," she said. "I had no idea how much it was."

She said she thought she had won $6 million but was surprised to learn from lottery officials she'd won $10 million.

Charlotte Peters has 60 days to decide whether to take a $6 million pre-tax lump sum payment or stretch the winnings into 21 yearly payments of almost $477,300 each.
She does not yet know what she will do with the money.

"I've always wanted a Corvette, but I don't think I'll buy one. I'll stick to a small car. I might go to Mohegan Sun," she said, referring to the casino in Connecticut. "I'm going to go home and sit and think."

The Peters children think their father would have appreciated the irony.
"He'd be very mad, he just passed away and she won a lot of money," said Brian Peters, one of the couple's three children. "He'd say, 'Figures!'"

Nagging Wife Causes Lotto Win

We have all seen the stereotype of the henpecked husband and the nagging wife. The image of the nagging wife has provided fodder for comedians for centuries. Recently in New Zealand there was a case of a nagging wife but with an interesting twist.

In Auckland New Zealand a husband who did not want to be identified said that his wife had been nagging him to buy ticket for New Zealand’s lottery. The man bought the lottery ticket just two minutes before ticket sales closed. “My wife had been nagging me all week to get a ticket, so I when saw the Lotto sign. I sprinted in to get the ticket before they closed. I must have been their last customer of the night.”

The man stated that the couple had a couple of ‘rough’ years due to the loss of one income after having children. He discovered their newly won fortune thanks to his wife’s request for a barbecued sausage. Out shopping for bargains, the man said he didn’t have enough money to buy his wife the sausage she’d asked him for. So he decided to check his Saturday lottery ticket in case he’d won a small prize.

Much to his surprise the husband found out he had won the lottery jackpot. “I could not believe it when they said I was actually the big winner,” he said. When he showed the printout to his wife, she initially thought they had won $4,200 (NZ$7,700). “When she realized how much it really was, she fell to the floor, and then said: ‘but all I wanted was a sausage.’”

The unnamed man stated, “I have never been so glad to listen to my wife’s nagging.” We should all be so lucky.
